Volunteers are essential for the success of this project and are required for every aspect of the day to day running of the project.

There is no typical day and although many of the jobs are a daily necessity such as feeding and cleaning, there is always a new experience or job that needs doing. We will ensure you will get involved and have fun while learning new skills, meeting new people and experiencing a new way of life all while making a huge difference to wildlife conservation.

Examples of jobs you may be involved in:

Daily feeding routines and sorting of new food deliveries
Hand raising and bottle feeding of orphans
Working in the baby monkey nursery (Nov-May) to supervise and ensure they are playing, sleeping, feeding etc.
Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning!! We need to ensure all the enclosures and work areas are kept clean to avoid any infections.
Helping to administer medicines
Construction projects - helping to build enclosures, fixing fences, taking down old fences, painting, fixing, maintenance, laying pipes etc.
Taking part in animal rescues or releases
Land maintenance such as alien tree removal or burning fie breaks
Enrichment projects

Minimum stay is one week but we highly recommend at least 2 weeks ( or longer during baby season - as the babies take a while to adjust to new faces) Maximum duration is dependent on your visa - most countries get a 3 month visa on arrival in South Africa but you must check this with your embassy. Visa extensions once in South Africa are very difficult so we do not recommend extending once you are here. If you want to come for longer than 3 months then rather apply for a longer visa before you arrive.

Volunteers stay in shared accommodation either in individual wooden chalets or in our volunteer house. There are a maximum of 3 people to a room with a shared bathroom/living room and kitchen facilities
We provide all bed linen and towels and 1 of our housekeeping staff will clean the chalet twice a week.

3 meals a day will be provided by the project and prepared by the volunteers. The food is basic but tasty and filling. Please let us know in advance of any dietary requirements. Our tap water is from a bore hole and is safe to drink.

We are happy to help with pre-trip assistance in the form of advice on travel and packing plans.
We pick up and drop off volunteers from our closest city of Nelspruit on their arrival and departure day.
On the day of arrival (or next day depending on arrival time) you will have an orientation tour of the facilities
Tours to Kruger National Park can be arranged at an additional cost depending on availability at the time.
Volunteers cook together in the evenings which becomes a social part of the day. Evening activities such as campfires are also arranged as are trips out to the local restaurant occasionally (at volunteers own cost).
