Details of the day-to-day life on the project:

School Clubs
Conduct English and Roots and shoots clubs each week for the children on the island.  Help to prepare fun, educational activities and deliver these exciting sessions alongside our Fuze Ecoteer staff.

PILA
In 2012 Ecoteer initiated the ‘Perhentian Islands Ladies Association’ (PILA) to engage local women in environmental issues whilst offering them a chance to increase their income. You can support these ladies by giving talks around the resorts and encouraging more tourists to attend the weekly ‘Kuih’ making sessions to sample their delicious home-made snacks and cakes.

Snorkeling

Although tourism is a fantastic way to increase income for the island it also comes with its own problems; large groups of snorkelers can cause serious damage to coral and marine life. With this in mind, we have collaborated with the local snorkel guides and plan thorough interactive eco-snorkel briefings before they go on the tours. We also conduct beach cleans and talk to tourists about how they can reduce their environmental impact.

An amazing project with amazing staff

average rating is 5 out of 5

I work as a travel agent, bringing volunteers to DAKTARI and other projects around the world. After helping a lot of volunteers fulfill their dreams of coming to South Africa, I managed to arrange 2 weeks to spend at the project. What a wonderful time I had starting with the staff who are so friendly and polite, the animals being taken care of as if they were family and the amazing food that was prepared catering to each of the volunteers individual needs. I can only say that if you are looking for an unique and quality experience involving a well thought out educational program and the preservation of native animal species, this is the one for you.
